"Carrboro is my home, it is where many of my friends and family live. Helping Carrboro residents and neighborhoods find solutions to the challenges we face is the best part of being an Alderman."

"I love that whenever we are at loose ends, all that James and I have to do is go for a walk around Carrboro and we see people we know. These spontaneous evenings out are the best, full of friends and neighbors, and interesting Carrboro things to do!"

I wasn’t born in Carrboro but as the saying goes I got here as soon as I could! I was born and raised in Towson, Maryland. After high school I moved with my family to Kabul Afghanistan where my father had taken a position as superintendent of the American schools. I moved to Carrboro on July 4th 1976 with my first husband to attend school. The moment I saw Carrboro I felt an overwhelming sense of place and knew that I had found my lifetime home. I received both a B.A. with Honors in Philosophy and a Masters of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill. While I was in school I taught pre-school, many of my pre-school students and their parents are still in our community –some I worked with while they were attending UNC! As an MSW Intern and after receiving my MSW, I worked with the Interfaith Council to help start and coordinate the Community Homeless Shelter. After leaving the IFC, I worked as a program coordinator for the ARC of Orange County. Since 1992 I have worked as a Career Counselor at UNC. I am married to the love of my life, local builder, James Arndt, and have 3 step daughters.

I have had the privilege of helping to lead our town as an Alderman since 1989. During that time Carrboro has maintained our unique sense of place and community while growing and welcoming new residents and businesses. I am thankful for the role I have been able to play in the development of who Carrboro is today and in shaping our future.
