  4. Fused Glass and Quilts Featured at WomanCraft Gifts

    Come and celebrate the end of Florence and the wonderful work of two artistans at WomanCraft this Friday. Carolyn Doyle works in both fabric and clay. At this event, she will be showing several new quilts. You can also explore her beautiful clay creations and fabric items during your visit. Jennifer Strickland creates beautiful decorative and utilitarian pieces in fused glass. Her pieces are composed of cut, crushed and powdered glass that is then fused in a kiln to create a solid piece. This is a great opportunity to learn about several mediums from two of the best! And as always - light refreshments are on us!

  5. Historic Downtown Raleigh Trolley Tour

    Carrboro Recreation and Parks trips are known for their fine company, back road ambling, and interest-piquing destinations. Take advantage of a one-day outing and leave the driving to someone else! All trips are geared for adults. Transportation by van, departing from Carrboro Town Hall and return times are approximate. Please inquire regarding wheelchair accessibility. In order to receive a refund, you must cancel 2 weeks prior to the trip. Historic Downtown Raleigh Trolley Tour Climb aboard for our hour-long guided ride through downtown Raleigh We will begin at Mordecai Historic Park and stop at Bicentennial Plaza, Joel Lane House, Fayetteville Street and City Market. Before our trolley tour, we will stop at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Following the trolley ride, we will have lunch at a restaurant at City Market before heading home Bring money for a doughnut and lunch. Register by September 14, 2018. Ages 18+

  6. Critter Carnival

    Meet & learn about animals at Critter Carnival! On Saturday, September 22, 2018, the 4th annual Critter Carnival (formerly Furry Friends Festival) will be held at Southern Community Park in Chapel Hill, NC from 10am to 2pm to raise money and awareness for numerous local animal rescue and rehabilitation charities. Many animals will be at the festival for people to meet, including owls, turtles, fawns, kittens, possums, raptors, snakes, birds of prey, adoptable puppies & dogs and much more. Circus artists such as hula hoopers and stilt walkers will exhibit their amazing skills. There will be a Maple View Ice Cream truck, a lemonade stand, animal-related vendors, arts & crafts vendors, and an online silent auction with lots of great items. Admission is free!   13. Active Life Kayak Trip - Bynum Upriver Paddle

    September 26, 2018, 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM @ Meet at Carrboro Town Hall, 301 W. Main St.

    OFFERED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE HAW RIVER CANOE & KAYAK COMPANY Because of its biological and ecological significance, land on both sides of the Haw River upriver of the dam at Highway 15-501 in Bynum is part of the Haw Slopes State Natural Area. A diversity of habitats includes rich forested slopes, islands, rocky outcrops and wetlands. Both rare and ancient plants are found along the shore. Great blue herons, belted kingfishers, Canada geese, red-tail hawks and eagles are commonly seen while paddling. Occasionally, deer, beaver and muskrats present themselves. Flat-water upriver of the dam is especially well-suited for both the beginner paddler and anyone interested in nature. We will conclude the trip having lunch at the Allen & Son BBQ in Pittsboro. Ages 50+

  18. Art and Nature: Exploring Nature through Art for Teens

    September 30, 2018, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Wilson Park Picnic Shelter

    In this outdoor hands-on class students will learn to see art in nature by identifying colors, patterns, textures and rhythms that we’ll find in the natural areas surrounding Wilson Park. Students will then create mixed media art projects involving painting and collage that are inspired by their discoveries. Students will become familiar with local flora and fauna, learn about their purpose, and discover how their experience can translate into art making. They will then create a work of art while being taught painting and collage techniques. This fun and explorative class will be based at the covered pavilion in Wilson Park.     Public engagement session on The 203 Project next Thursday evening, September 20th, at 7:30 pm. The 203 Project is the future home of the Orange County Southern Branch Library, new Town Recreation and Parks spaces, The ArtsCenter, WCOM radio, and more. The meeting is currently scheduled to take place at Town Hall, 301 W. Main Street. We have been working to obtain an alternative venue; the storm preparation this week delayed final approval of that location. If there is a change in the location, you will receive an email update. The session will include a presentation on the process to date, the public input sessions, and the schematic design by the design team from Perkins + Will.This session provides the opportunity for you all to ask questions and provide comments at this stage in the design process. We look forward to your participation.
