Town Facility and Service Changes

• Town of Carrboro – Sunday’s concert featuring Kay Marion & the Neo Symphony as part of Carrboro’s Black History Month Lecture & Concert Series will be rescheduled to March 8.
• Yard Waste Collection is canceled for Monday.
• Dog Park – The dog park at Anderson Park is closed due to icy, unsafe conditions.

How the Town Responds 

Public Works crews began plowing roadways at around 4 p.m. Saturday after more than 2 inches of snow had fallen. They will continue plowing primary and second roads into the evening and on Sunday.

Please do not park vehicles on streets, and do not pass vehicles plowing snow. Parked vehicles block plows, create safety hazards, and often result in unplowed, dangerous, or narrowed streets. Leaving space allows plows to make full passes.

Major emphasis is placed on arterial/collector streets, hills, and approaches to emergency facilities with secondary priority given to local residential streets. Property and business owners are responsible for snow and ice removal on sidewalks in front of structures they own or occupy and for their parking lots and driveways, where snow may accumulate due to plowing.

The town’s emergency management team continues to coordinate town preparations and response, including scheduling additional staff to work throughout the weather event.

 Stay Off Ice-Covered Ponds and Creeks 

Stay off ice-covered creeks, ponds, and lakes during winter storms, as fluctuating temperatures, moving water, and, in many cases, road salt runoff create weak, unpredictable, and dangerous conditions. Ice that looks solid can break without warning, leading to deadly cold water shock in seconds. Never walk, skate, or let pets on frozen stormwater ponds.
